It's a translation (by Robert Daly) of annotated selections of von Balthasar (who wrote in German). The introductory materials are superb as is the translation. The book covers excerpts from Origin's commentaries on scripture, in particular. And the introductory remarks by both the translator and the writer (who has arranged the material in terms of themes and introduces not only each theme by the various aspect of a theme - prior to each of the selections from Origin).

I really cannot say enough about this book! It indicates how Origin's thought and writings have penetrated later spiritual writers and commentaries (often in hidden ways). Plus, Origin's "attitude" toward scripture is powerfully imbued with a deep reverence for God's WORD - even describing our reading or hearing of it as "spiritual communion" with the Body of Christ.

As I wrote in a recent post: "It's like finding an archeological site and recognizing your own deepest yearnings mapped out already long ago. Waiting to be rediscovered. Laid out like a kind of blueprint for spiritual writings read and pondered over the years."

For a long time I've had Origin on my "radar screen" - and from now on I suspect he will never leave it!TheraPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17684120043427738135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6714437334790446678.post-56246660050121082502012-06-21T21:03:13.460-05:002012-06-21T21:03:13.460-05:00Thank you, Mary. Although I've been plunging ahead with apparent confidence, I've been much more dissatisfied with my posts since I returned to blogging than I ever used to be in the old days. I always feel like there's something not quite right. The criticisms from the editors on my Lewis paper didn't help. (This isn't a self-pity party, just an attempt to evaluate myself honestly!)Aaron Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17775589009145031773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6714437334790446678.post-90494840425373035382012-06-20T01:19:30.042-05:002012-06-20T01:19:30.042-05:00Aaron, apart from being grateful that you are writ...Aaron, apart from being grateful that you are writing again, all I can say is that this is wonderful stuff!
