Dear Readers,
I have no idea how many of you actually read this blog every day, but to those who do, I'm afraid I must particularly offer my apologies for the last couple of days. The hectic pace of my unfortunately modern life, the demands of family, the diminishment in vigour which seems inevitably to attend the Lenten Spring, and, most recently, a bit of illness, have conspired to make what posts I've managed somewhat later than usual, to prevent second posts, and, finally, to hinder completely my planned post for St Polycarp today. I hope to make it up at some point, but in the meantime, please bear with me!
Yours,
Aaron
P.S. That is my leg protruding from the sea in the above painting, the title of which some of you may recall. Fortunately, as in the painting, life continues apace all around me despite my own fall.

Well, Icarus, at least you can swim.
ReplyDeleteYou've been producing at such a hectic pace there's no need for apology. A single post every day is admirable. To post more than one, and those of such a consistent quality, is a delight to readers, but is too much work. Keep yourself to one post, and don't worry about it being daily. Less than multiple times daily is fine, too! Everyone enjoys your writing, and will still enjoy it. But you needn't keep yourself to such a hectic pace, particularly during Lent and with illness, and your other responsibilities. Blogging is just a fun thing, a hobby, so treat it as such. Keep it an enjoyable thing, and everyone (including the author and his family!) will continue to enjoy it.
Don't let it happen again.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the encouragement, my friends. Perhaps I should indeed rethink my posting schedule. The problem is that I liked the idea of posting on one Saint every day, but then I didn't want the blog to be only about Saints so I had to do a second one as well. Maybe if I just don't try to keep up with a Saint a day the other posts will sort themselves out as well.
ReplyDeleteNo worries Aaron! I read it daily and keeping my own blog its a fulltime job. (Just as well my I.T dept don't monitor my computer use at work :)
ReplyDeleteAs far as vistors i cannot recommend highly enough Statcounter. It will give u all the info u need about who vists ur blog. Find it at http://www.statcounter.com/
cheers
Artyom
Thank you, Artyom! I do have Statcounter, but I'm not very savvy at making sense of the info there. I can sort of figure out how a few people seem to visit each day, but I don't know how to organise the info in the clearest way. Also, it's not THAT big of a deal to me!
ReplyDeleteHope and pray you are feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteAnd my thanks for all your posts which are edifying, encouraging and also entertaining.
Aaron, it's hard enough to consistently read about even just one Saint in a day, much less construct these delightful little lives that you've been posting. I love them, and don't want them to stop. So don't burn out! Cut back a little and it won't be such a burden.
ReplyDeleteI've also been meaning to say that you should think about them for publication as little informative pamphlets or such like. Obviously they'd need some editing to remove links and so on, and perhaps be expanded a little. But they're good! At the very least, think about collecting them into a little paperback or something.
Kevin> I'm glad to hear you think it worthwhile to try to publish these posts on the Saints. To tell the truth, I've certainly not written them with the expectation of doing anything more serious with them than posting them here, and they'd probably require a good deal of editing indeed to satisfy me! But perhaps I could look them over and see what I could do with one or two of them as a sort of experiment. Any particular favourites you might suggest?
ReplyDeleteI really don't know what you're apologising for as I have no idea how you manage to produce so much. But if I may make one plea: would you consider some sort of referencing system whereby one could easily look up old posts on particular subjects?
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, you may be interested to know that I have started reading a certain French Benedictine whom some people (well, one person) consider infallible.
Sr Macrina> I suppose I could, and probably should, put such a system in place. Would the topic tags do the trick, you think?
ReplyDeleteI think I know the French Benedictine to whom you refer. I'm glad to hear you're reading him, but don't feel bad if you don't think he's as infallible as I've made out. Now I'm afraid that I've hyped him up so much that he can't possibly live up to it!
Aaron, I don't have know how Blogger works - in Wordpress one has both categories and tags, although I haven't quite worked out the difference between them. But something like that would be very helpful - I keep thinking that I must come back to some of your posts, but by the time I do that (given that you've posted so much in the meantime) they're not that easy to find!
ReplyDeleteSr Macrina> Whenever I want to find something in most blogs, I just enter key words into the search box. It generally works quite well if you're sufficiently specific.
ReplyDeleteAaron> Labels, I have found, are only useful to group together series or very closely related pieces. Otherwise, they become unmanageable and therefore useless.
Esteban> Well, since I've instituted the labels solely due to the pleas of Sr Macrina, hopefully she, at least, will manage to find them useful!
